The 31st Plenary Assembly of Catholic Bishop's Conference of India (CBCI) was hosted by the Eparchy from 5 to 12 February, 2014 at Alphonsian Pastoral Institute, Arunapuram, Palai. The theme of this biennial assembly was "Renewed Church for a Renewed Society - Responding to the Call of Second Vatican Council". The week long event was officially inaugurated by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Salvatore Penacchio with Holy Mass followed by the Public Meeting on Wednesday, 5 February. A Civic Reception for the assembling ecclesiastical dignitaries was also given at St. Thomas College Ground, Arunapuram on Saturday, 8 February. On Sunday 9 February the participating Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops also visited parishes like Pala Cathedral, Aruvithura, Cherpunkal, Kuravilangadu, Muttuchira and Ramapuram, and other centres such as Mannanam and Vadavathoor Seminary. Also the Eparchy hosted an Evening Fellowship - Agape on Monday 10 February at the Bishop's House to honour the Episcopal Dignitaries and Invited Guests and 150 people representing a cross section of the disadvantaged. On Tuesday 11 February, the ecclesiastical dignataries made pilgrimage to the Tomb of Saint Alphonsa at Bharananganam and celebrated Holy Mass at the Shrine.
